Located close to Cebu, Bohol is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Philippines. I had the fortune of traveling to Bohol this past March and what an amazing trip it was!
My flight to Bohol was scheduled from Manila. The moment I stepped off the plane, I could feel the heat beating down on me. So, if you plan to head over to the Philippines between Feb and July, I would strongly recommend that you carry a good quality sunblock; loose summer dresses and a soft hat.
Leaving the scorching hot weather aside, I was completely blown away by the hospitality of the people in Bohol. By the end of my trip, I came to the conclusion that the Filipinos are the nicest, friendliest and most genuine people in the world.
But that is just one aspect of Bohol. There is much more to the spectacular island that really makes it worth a visit:
The ever-famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol! They are probably the island’s main tourist attraction.
A geological formation, Chocolate Hills comprise least 1,260 hills. These mighty hills are green or brown. Green grass covers them. But, the most interesting part is that they turn chocolate brown at the end of the dry season. The hills generally have a uniform structure. Most of them are as high as 30 to 50 meters. Chocolate Hills are the country’s third National Geological Monument.
Bohol Forest is the Philippines’ first and only man-made forest. The forest features mahogany trees stretched over an area of 2 km. Due to the thick branched, uniform height trees, the forest stands out.
Simply The Butterfly Conservation Center is a butterfly breeding and conservation center in Bohol. It aims to protect the natural environment of butterflies through breeding, plant research and releasing.
The conservation center has a beautiful butterfly garden as well as an enclosure. The garden consists of a variety of colorful flowers and plants so that butterflies can feed on them. You will find a wide range of butterfly species at the center, such as seats, pagoda and more.
If you’re bored of observing butterflies, you can grab enjoy a meal at any restaurant inside the center.
Panglao Island is a popular tourist spot in Bohol. It has a number of stunning beaches as well restaurants, bars, clubs and resorts. Alona Beach is a must-see spot.
